Cake smash sessions celebrate that big one-year milestone, messy, silly, and full of personality. Babies love the sensory experience of squishing frosting between their fingers (and toes!). Some dive right in, while others carefully poke and taste, but however your baby approaches the cake, the moments are always adorable and genuine.

These sessions take place in my Newport Beach studio with a timeless, neutral setup that keeps the focus on your baby. We start with simple portraits, then move on to the cake smash, and finish with a sweet clean-up in a little clawfoot tub for splashy bath photos parents love just as much as the cake shots.

The entire experience is relaxed, baby-led, and designed to be fun. I offer cake smash sessions for families across Newport Beach, Costa Mesa, Laguna Beach, Huntington Beach, and Irvine, a fun way to celebrate your baby’s first year.

Where do I even begin...

I would not trust anyone else at this point with my boys. Meeting her amazing and she is truly a gift to our family. So how does everything work?

Let me explain...

1 - Lets book and plan

You can book your session by filling out my contact form or by calling or texting 949-922-7183. Once I hear from you, I’ll send a booking link where you can secure your date and share a little about yourself and your child. You’ll also receive a simple prep guide with everything you need to know to get ready for your session.

2 - On your session day

My Orange County children’s sessions typically start around 10 AM (depending on naps, of course). When you arrive, my goal is for everything to feel relaxed and stress free. We’ll spend a little time helping your child get comfortable, play some games, and maybe turn on some fun music, all while I capture sweet, natural photos of your kiddo.

3 - After your session

About two weeks after your session, you’ll receive an email with a link to your proof gallery. From there, you can select the images you’d like to include in your package and send me a quick text once you’re finished. I’ll then add your selections to my retouch queue, and once your images are fully edited, I’ll send you a final gallery. If you’ve ordered prints, they’ll be ready for pickup 2–3 weeks after your final gallery is delivered.

Frequently Asked Questions

How long are the sessions?

My sessions are approximately 90 minutes, but I keep things flexible. As you know, children are unpredictable and every child is different. Some need a little time to warm up, while others are ready to jump right in. I’m known for having a lot of patience, so I take the time needed to make sure we capture what we need.

What if my child acts crazy?

If your child acts crazy during the session or won't sit still then guess what... you have a normal child! I encourage kids to act like kids in my studio. I believe this produces the best photos. We want their personality to come through.

This isn't my first rodeo. I have 3 kids of my own and I have been photographing kids for years. I have tons of tricks up my sleeve to have fun and capture the shots we need.

What I ask is that parents don't coach from the sidelines. Its just like soccer where you should let the coach do the coaching.

I do bribe with candy and prizes at the end of the session however, I will always check with you first. No peanuts of course!

Can the parents jump in some photos?

YES! I encourage this! You are here so we should definitely get some family shots!

Why do you only provide a white cake?

I work with Cinderella Cakes to create a cake for the cake smash session.

I only allow white, naked cakes for cake smash sessions for several reasons. First off, my studio is white. If you come in with a bright pink cake, my floors will be forever pink. Second, while a blue cake might look darling by itself, once your child rubs it all over their face and body they will look like Cookie Monster. And last, we do a naked cake because it reduces the amount of frosting on the cake. This prevents sugar overload in your little one. Also, frosting is VERY slippery so cakes with too much frosting turn the studio in to an ice rink which is not good for new walkers.
